Area under graph represents A(x)

Now the numerator of Equation:

is simply the difference between A(x + h) - A(x). You can subtract one area from the other to obtain the area under graph of f and above the horizontal axis bounded on the left by the vertical line t = x and on the right by the vertical line t = x+h. The graph of this is shown below.
